Frequently asked questions
Can it split a bill between multiple payers?
Yes — that is the whole point. Add as many payers as you like. FairShare computes each person's net balance (what they paid minus their equal share) and cancels the debts off against each other.
What if some people did not pay anything?
Set the group size higher than the number of payers. Everyone who did not pay is added automatically as a group member who owes a full share.
How does the debt simplifier reduce transactions?
It uses a greedy settlement algorithm: the person who owes the most pays the person who is owed the most, repeatedly, until every balance is zero. That collapses a web of small IOUs into a handful of transfers.
Can the whole group see it update live?
Yes. Press Share link and send the URL to the group. Everyone who opens it sees the same split, and when one person records a payment it appears on every device within a moment — no refresh, no account, no app to install.
What if someone pays me back a bit at a time?
Record each part payment as it happens. The row shows how much has gone in and how much is left, and the remaining unpaid total for the whole group drops with it.
